Reclaimed Lumber and Stone
Reclaimed Lumber from
Dismantled Houses and Barns
All of our wood is selected and reclaimed from old barns and buildings that are carefully dismantled and processed so that the wood is once again ready for use in today's settings. The difference between reclaimed lumber and that of "green" or live trees that are harvested for general market use is separated by two main characteristics.
Key Characteristics of Quality and Age
First and perhaps most importantly, reclaimed wood has been exposed to the environment for hundreds of years leaving the wood with an aged, old appearance that is dark and weathered to reveal small cracks where moisture and nature have worked together to bring out a beautiful and unique patina. This effect is not duplicated nor removed with modern machinery.
The second characteristic is simply the quality of product being used for manufacturing. Much of the wood is reclaimed from existing buildings dating back to around the Civil War era or even before. At that time trees were often considered "old growth" because deforestation was minimal in mountainous regions. The result is wood that is no longer available either due to the tightness of the growth rings or the extinction of the species (as in the case of Chestnut).
American Chestnut, Beam Cut Oak, and More!
We feature four different lines of reclaimed lumber and of those four; the majority is used as flooring: American Chestnut, Beam Cut Oak, Shenandoah Valley Yellow Pine, and Barn Board Oak.
We also offer boards in the rough in full inch and width variations as well as S4S (smooth four sides) planks. Our lumber is carefully de-nailed, processed, and kiln dried to ensure the same high standard of quality to each customer.
